AREAS AFFECTED: Central Alaska Peninsula; Chignik; Southern Alaska Peninsula
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Blizzard conditions possible. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 10 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 50 mph. Visibility reduced to one-quarter mile at times. * WHERE...Central Alaska Peninsula, Chignik, and Southern Alaska Peninsula. * WHEN...From Thursday afternoon through Friday morning. * IMPACTS...Visibilities reduced to one quarter mile or less due to blowing snow. Travel could be very difficult. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong low pressure system in the northern Pacific will approach the Aleutians and Alaska Peninsula Thursday. Low position Thursday afternoon is still uncertain but areas such as Cold Bay and King Cove have the potential to develop blizzard conditions Thursday afternoon into Friday morning. Gusty winds out of the northeast may drive blowing snow into the area, potentially reducing visibility to one-quarter mile or less at times.
INSTRUCTION: A Winter Storm Watch for blizzard conditions means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very hazardous.

Stratocumulus clouds are similar to altocumulus clouds in their
fluffy appearance, but have a slightly darker shade due to their additional mass.
A good way to distinguish the two cloud types is to hold your hand out and measure
the size of an individual cloud; if it is the size of your thumb it is generally
an altocumulus cloud, if it is the size of your hand it is generally a
stratocumulus cloud.
It is uncommon for stratocumulus clouds to produce precipitation, but if they do
it is usually a light rain or snow.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud,
and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.
Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can
result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or
rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud
takes shape.
Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally
form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.
