AREAS AFFECTED: Sierra Madre Range; Snowy Range
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 20 inches. * WHERE...Sierra Madre Range and Snowy Range. * WHEN...From 5 AM Wednesday to 11 AM MST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Outdoor recreation could become life threatening to those caught unprepared for severe winter conditions. Hikers and snowmobilers may easily become disoriented. Frostbite and hypothermia can develop quickly.
INSTRUCTION: Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is winterized and in good working order.

Cumulus clouds are fluffy and textured with rounded tops, and
may have flat bottoms. The border of a cumulus cloud
is clearly defined, and can have the appearance of cotton or cauliflower.
Cumulus clouds form at low altitudes (rarely above 2 km) but can grow very tall,
becoming cumulus congestus and possibly the even taller cumulonimbus clouds.
When cumulus clouds become taller, they have a greater chance of producing precipitation.
