DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...For the Winter Storm Warning, heavy mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations between one tenth and three tenths of an inch. For the Winter Storm Watch, significant icing possible. Total ice accumulations around two tenths of an inch possible. * WHERE...Price County. * WHEN...For the Winter Storm Warning, from 1 AM to 7 PM CDT Thursday. For the Winter Storm Watch, from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. * IMPACTS...Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The majority of the snowfall is expected to fall during the daytime hours. With the high sun angle and temperatures hovering just above freezing, snowfall will have a difficult time accumulating on warm surfaces leading to a slushy mess.

Altostratus clouds form at mid to high-level altitudes (between 2 and 7 km) and are created by a warm, stable air mass which causes water vapor to condense as it rise through the atmosphere. Usually altostratus clouds are featureless sheets characterized by a uniform color.

In some cases, wind punching through the cloud formation may give it a waved appearance, called altostratus undulatus. Altostratus clouds are commonly seen with other cloud formations accompanying them.
