AREAS AFFECTED: Western Klamath National Forest; Central Siskiyou County Including Shasta Valley; Siskiyou County from the Cascade Mountains East and South to Mt Shasta

DESCRIPTION: The National Weather Service in Medford has upgraded the Fire Weather Watch to a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 2 PM to 8 PM PDT Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Given the long stretch of dry and hot and very conditions, lightning efficiency will be high to very high for fire starts. Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. * AFFECTED AREA...All of Fire Weather Zones 280, 281, and 284. * THUNDERSTORMS...Isolated to scattered thunderstorms. Lightning strikes outside of precipitation cores are possible, and cause for concern. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gust up to 35 mph. These outflow winds can travel up to 50 miles away from the thunderstorm that caused it. * ADDITIONAL INFORMATION...Storms will tend to be isolated to start then increasing during the afternoon into the early evening hours both Monday and Tuesday. Stratocumulus clouds are similar to altocumulus clouds in their fluffy appearance, but have a slightly darker shade due to their additional mass.

A good way to distinguish the two cloud types is to hold your hand out and measure the size of an individual cloud; if it is the size of your thumb it is generally an altocumulus cloud, if it is the size of your hand it is generally a stratocumulus cloud.

It is uncommon for stratocumulus clouds to produce precipitation, but if they do it is usually a light rain or snow.

A wall cloud forms underneath the base of a cumulonimbus cloud, and can be a hotbed for deadly tornadoes.

Wall clouds are formed by air flowing into the cumulonimbus clouds, which can result in the wall cloud descending from the base of the cumulonimbus cloud, or rising fractus clouds which join to the base of the storm cloud as the wall cloud takes shape.

Wall clouds can be very large, and in the Northern Hemisphere they generally form at the southern edge of cumulonimbus clouds.
