DESCRIPTION: ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM CST WEDNESDAY FOR STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE FAR SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE, SOUTH PLAINS, AND PORTIONS OF THE ROLLING PLAINS... ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR STRONG WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR THE FAR SOUTHERN TEXAS PANHANDLE, NORTHERN SOUTH PLAINS, AND NORTHERN ROLLING PLAINS... The National Weather Service in Lubbock has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM to 7 PM CST Wednesday. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Thursday morning through Thursday evening. * Timing...11 AM through 7 PM CST Tuesday for Red Flag Warning. Wednesday afternoon for the Red Flag Warning. Thursday afternoon for the Fire Weather Watch. * Wind...For Tuesday, Southwest at 30 to 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph. For Wednesday, Southwest at 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 45 mph. For Thursday, West at 25 to 30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. * Humidity...For Tuesday, as low as 13 percent. For Wednesday, as low as 9 percent. For Thursday, as low as 11 percent. * Fuels...Normal to dry. * Impacts...Any fires that develop can spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is discouraged.

A hole punch cloud is an unusual occurrence when a disk-shaped
hole appears in a cirrostratus, cirrocumulus, or altocumulus cloud.
When part of the cloud forms ice crystals, water droplets in the surrounding area
of the cloud evaporate. The effect of this process produces a large elliptical
gap in the cloud. The hole punch cloud formation is rare, but it is not specific
to any geographic area.
Other names which have been used to describe this phenomena include fallstreak hole,
skypunch, and cloud hole.

A nimbostratus cloud is similar to a stratus cloud in its formless,
smooth appearance. However, a nimbostratus cloud is darker than a stratus cloud,
because it is thicker.
Unlike a stratus cloud, a nimbostratus cloud typically brings with it the threat
of moderate to heavy precipitation. In some cases, the precipitation may evaporate
before reaching the ground, a phenomenon known as virga.
