AREAS AFFECTED: Los Angeles, CA
DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues. * WHERE...A portion of southwest California, including the following county, Los Angeles. * WHEN...Until 500 AM PST. * IMPACTS...Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas. Ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 102 AM PST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rainfall falling across eastern Ventura County and moving into west central Los Angeles County. Rainfall rates with this lines are ranging between 0.25 inch and 0.50 inch per hours with local rates up to around 0.75 inch per hour. Overflowing poor drainage areas will cause minor flooding in the advisory area. - Local law enforcement is reporting flooding on area roadways, including Interstates 5, 10, and 710. Creeks, streams, and dry washes may be flowing. Roadway flooding and ponding on pavement surfaces will create hazardous driving conditions. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Pasadena, Alhambra, Duarte, Azusa, Monrovia, Whittier, Montebello, El Monte, Mount Wilson, West Covina, Diamond Bar, Walnut, Burbank, Glendale, Downtown Los Angeles, North Hollywood. - Minor debris flows may be occurring in and around the recent burn scars, such as the Eaton and Palisades burn scars. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
INSTRUCTION: Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads. Please report observed flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement and request they pass this information to the National Weather Service when you can do so safely.

Sleet is a form of precipitation in which small ice pellets are the primary
components. These ice pellets are smaller and more translucent than hailstones,
and harder than graupel. Sleet is caused by specific atmospheric conditions and
therefore typically doesn't last for extended periods of time.
The condition which leads to sleet formation requires a warmer body of air to be
wedged in between two sub-freezing bodies of air. When snow falls through a warmer
layer of air it melts, and as it falls through the next sub-freezing body of air
it freezes again, forming ice pellets known as sleet. In some cases, water
droplets don't have time to freeze before reaching the surface and the result is
freezing rain.

Stratocumulus clouds are similar to altocumulus clouds in their
fluffy appearance, but have a slightly darker shade due to their additional mass.
A good way to distinguish the two cloud types is to hold your hand out and measure
the size of an individual cloud; if it is the size of your thumb it is generally
an altocumulus cloud, if it is the size of your hand it is generally a
stratocumulus cloud.
It is uncommon for stratocumulus clouds to produce precipitation, but if they do
it is usually a light rain or snow.
