DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central North Carolina, including the following counties, Caswell, Rockingham and Stokes and Virginia, including the following counties, Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Botetourt, Buckingham, Campbell, Charlotte, Floyd, Franklin, Halifax, Henry, Patrick, Pittsylvania, Roanoke and Rockbridge. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Expect moderate to heavy rain due to scattered showers and thunderstorms on today and tonight. Rainfall rates of up to 3 inches per hour are possible with any of the thunderstorms. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Fog is technically a type of stratus cloud, which lies along the ground and obscures visibility.

It is usually created when humidity in the air condenses into tiny water droplets. Because of this, some places are more prone to foggy weather, such as regions close to a body of water.

Fog is similar to mist; both are the appearance of water droplets suspended in the air, but fog is the term applied to the condition when visibility is less than 1 km.

The result of this precipitation is a glaze of ice which can be damaging to plants and man-made structures. A severe onset of freezing rain which results in a very thick glaze of ice is known as an ice storm.
